Daylight photo studio on West 1st Avenue

Asquatlyra rents one room at 1855 W 1st Ave, unit C-19, in the False Creek Flats area of Vancouver. It is a working space for portraits, product shots and small crew shoots.

The studio sits two blocks from the Olympic Village SkyTrain entrance on the Canada Line and a short walk from the Main Street–Science World station. There is a loading bay off the laneway behind the building, so carts and light stands come in without going through the front lobby.

What is in the room

The main floor measures 1,150 square feet with 12-foot ceilings. One wall is a painted white cyclorama with a curved cove at the base, repainted every six weeks. Two north-facing windows run along the far side and give soft, even light from about 9:40 until 16:20 through most of the year.

A separate makeup and changing room holds a lit mirror, a garment rack, a steamer and a small table. It closes off from the shooting floor, which matters when a client needs to change between setups.

Lighting is already rigged on ceiling track: four monolights, two strip softboxes, one 7-foot parabolic, and a set of flags and cutters. Sandbags, C-stands and a rolling cart live in the corner. You are welcome to bring your own heads and trigger, and we do not charge extra for using ours.

There is no elevator to the unit. The door is level with the loading bay, so wheeled cases roll straight in.

Who books the space

Headshot photographers book two-hour blocks on weekday mornings. E-commerce teams from Mount Pleasant and Strathcona take the room for full days and shoot flat-lay and tabletop work. A few local labels use it for lookbooks twice a season, and podcasters record video segments against the black side of the cyclorama.

We do not host events, parties, film crews with generators, or anything that needs a permit from the City of Vancouver. If you need a sound stage or a location with parking for a five-ton truck, the studios on Powell Street and the ones near Clark Drive are set up for that.
